Dozens of people were displaced Saturday by an apartment fire in Sandy Springs, a Red Cross spokeswoman said.

At least 16 units were damaged at The Falls at Sandy Springs Apartments in the 5500 block of Roswell Road, Divina Mims Puckett said.

“Our volunteers are meeting one-on-one with those affected to help meet emergency needs for essentials such as shelter, food, clothing and replacement prescriptions,” Puckett said.

Red Cross officials provided 48 people with assistance, Puckett said. Caseworkers will continue to work with the displaced residents to help them recover.

The fire started in the utility room, Sandy Springs spokeswoman Sharon Kraun said.
