A police K9 dog was stabbed Friday as officers captured a fugitive in a Dunwoody subdivision, police said.

The Doraville K9 officer, named Tryko, was stabbed in the mouth and had about 30 stitches, Channel 2 Action News reported. This happened as Dunwoody police and U.S. Marshals apprehended a fugitive who was wanted in four north Georgia counties.

The suspect, Jeffrey Coleman, barricaded himself in the basement of a house in the Hidden Branches subdivision in Dunwoody, Channel 2 reported. That’s when officers sent the K9 into the residence. The suspect responded by stabbing the dog before the suspect was handcuffed, Channel 2 reported.

The dog is listed as stable.

Charges against Coleman include assault and possession of stolen property.
