A former DeKalb County jailer has been indicted on a battery charge for allegedly beating an inmate.
Anthony Dozier is accused of beating Joseph Sims on Jan. 30, 2014, after confronting the inmate over tucking in his shirt, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Another jailer tried to pry Dozier off Sims as Dozier rained nearly 30 blows on the inmate, the television station reported.
Sims alleged in a pending federal lawsuit that Dozier punched him mostly as he lay on the ground. Sims said he suffered a black eye, lacerations, grave pain and emotional distress because of the beating.
Another inmate alleges Dozier choked him and rammed his head into a concrete wall in 2014, Channel 2 reported.

Dozier was indicted last week on charges of battery and violating the oath of office in the Sims case, according to court records. A warrant was issued for his arrest, but by Thursday afternoon he hadn’t arrived at the county jail.
A jail spokeswoman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the sheriff, who is over the jail, had no comment. She said Dozier no longer works for the agency.
Attempts to reach Dozier weren’t successful Thursday.
