After a seven-year career with the DeKalb County Police Department, Andor, a 9-year-old Belgian Malinois, is retiring.
And he’s getting a new home.
On Feb. 7, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of Andor by his handler for $1.
Andor was born in 2008 and was trained to find narcotics, fleeing felons and missing items, a news release said. He and his partner, Officer S.L. Eshleman, began working together in January 2010.
Eshleman and Andor were assigned to Special Operations and answered calls for service throughout DeKalb County and the Metro Atlanta area.

“Andor responded to 980 calls, was responsible for 239 arrests, apprehended 85 suspects and located 39 missing articles,” the news release said. “K-9 Andor is also credited with 120 drug finds resulting in $791,096 of illegal narcotics, $83,641 in currency and 59 weapons being seized.”
