Body of Lake Lanier jet skier found

Authorities will resume the search at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities Tuesday night found the body of a jet skier who disappeared after a crash on Lake Lanier.

The body of Yakov Shteyman was found in 65 feet of water near Charleston Park in Forsyth County, Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokesman Mark McKinnon said.

Crews from the DNR and the Forsyth County Fire Department responded to that location about 8:30 p.m. Monday after a collision between the jet ski and a bass boat. Shteyman, 34, of Cumming, went in the lake and never resurfaced, McKinnon said. Officials searched for him for six hours Monday. They resumed that search Tuesday morning.

Shteyman’s body was found about 7:40 p.m., McKinnon said.

Channel 2 Action News reported Shteyman was not wearing a life jacket and that two people on the bass boat were not injured.

DNR officials are investigating if speed or alcohol played a part in the crash.
