Christopher Kenyatta, left, died in July at a Stone Mountain apartment complex, and police say Kerri Redding confessed to shooting him.

DeKalb County police have charged a 25-year-old Atlanta man with gunning down a teenager, months after the body was found on a wooded path.

Kerri Redding is accused of murder in the death of 19-year-old Christopher Kenyatta, according to a warrant released to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Family members told Channel 2 Action News shortly after Kenyatta was found in July that witnesses had taken photos of his lifeless body. The photos were shared around the neighborhood for sometime before a passerby finally dialed 911, the family said.

Police have released few details on the shooting, which left the victim shot in the torso and head on the path between The Reserves at Stone Creek Apartments and Ashland Pines Apartments.

But the warrant says Redding admitted to someone that he shot Kenyatta. Redding allegedly asked for help getting rid of the clothes he wore while pulling the trigger of his .22-caliber Magnum revolver.

Redding was known to carry the .22, police allege.

Police haven’t released a possible motive.

A passerby found the 19 year old on July 6.

The man first thought Kenyatta, lying with legs crossed next to a grocery bag, was drunk. He shouted to get his attention, to no avail, according to a police report.

The passerby called 911 after seeing that Kenyatta still didn’t budge after a bird landed on his back.

“For everything I know and love, I would trade places with my grandson,” Mary Kenyatta told the TV station. “He did not deserve that.”
