If you recently saw a Marietta police officer in a construction outfit, they weren't confused about which member of the Village People they were.

Those cops were in the middle of a sting to catch distracted drivers, according to a Channel 2 Action News report Thursday.

Undercover officers, positioned by the Big Chicken, wrote 15 distracted driving citations at $150 a pop.

One cop dressed as a surveyor would see the distracted driver and then radio ahead to officers further up the road who would pull the driver over.

The department told Channel 2 that they hope this will remind folks to follow the law even if they don’t see a cop.

Remember, you can’t text while driving — even while stopped at a light.

Channel 2 reported that officers also issued 13 seat belt citations and eight miscellaneous traffic violations.

Many drivers may not know it's illegal to text at a stop light and dozens of citations were issued to unsuspected drivers during the undercover sting.
