Chloe Enix started racing wooden cars in middle school and now she’s been named the state’s best engineering student by the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers.

The Marietta native enrolled in Southern Polytechnic State University, now Kennesaw State University, and studies civil engineering.

“I am so honored to have been chosen out of the many deserving students,” she said, according to a KSU news release. “The award means I’m making a difference. Rather than settling, this award pushes me to do more.”

The school said Enix got curious about engineering with Formula One in Schools program, an international program that allows children to build and race wooden cars. She went on to Wheeler High’s advanced studies magnet.

Enix was nominated for the award by the American Society of Civil Engineers Georgia chapter at the request of Nancy Turner, a civil engineering lecturer. She and the other candidates were vetted by the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers.

“I can attest that Chloe has been the most dedicated student to ASCE in all capacities, whether it’s as the leader of the student chapter, a leader on the competition team or as a leader in pursuing funding, student involvement and professional connections,” Turner said.

After graduation, Enix said she wants to go into geotechnical engineering, which The AJC won’t even attempt to explain.
