A Cobb County judge sentenced a 59-year-old man to nearly two decades in prison for molesting a boy he was home schooling.

Prosecutors said David Peter Eidens, who is not related to the pre-teen, got 19 years in prison and a year of probation on his one child molestation count — the maximum for such a crime.

Eidens had an arrangement with the family to babysit and home-school the 12-year-old boy, according to a news release from the Cobb district attorney’s office.

The abuse was discovered after the father walked into the Mableton apartment and found his son getting dressed in a bed with Eidens, according to a warrant.

The boy told investigators that he had been molested several times before.

Cobb detectives found out that Eidens was convicted in Florida of “inappropriately touching an 11-year-old boy in the same manner” in 1984.

“This plea ensured that ... no other child will suffer at the hands of this lifelong predator,” said prosecutor Drew Healy. “Two victims, decades apart, had the courage to come forward and ultimately bring this defendant to justice.”

Eidens would be 78 years old when he gets out of prison if he serves his full sentence.
