Powder Springs let staff go home early Friday and is preparing to keep roadways safe as inches of snow head for the area.

The snow storm is set to lay 4 inches of snow on metro Atlanta.

Pam Conner, city manager, said Thursday morning that the first staff to leave would be those who live north of where Paulding and Cobb counties meet.

As the first batch of administrative staff left, the first crew from the public works department would arrive to prepare the fight against icy roads.

The plan is for the second sand-spreading shift to relieve them at 8 p.m. and work through the night.

“We are all prepared,” Conner said. “All of our essential personnel are ready to address anything that comes our way.”

Police officers were instructed to bring an overnight bag in the event they needed to stay due to an emergency.

If the snow falls as forecasted, she said police are advising residents to stay off the roads until crews have the situation under control.
