A man has been arrested after police say he shot and killed a 27-year-old man over the weekend in a Mableton trailer park.

Francisco Madera, of Atlanta, has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault with a weapon, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, a spokesman with Cobb County police.

Officers responded about 5 a.m. Saturday to a trailer at 42 Winnstead Drive, across the Chattahoochee River from Fulton County’s Charlie Brown Field.

According to a warrant, Madera fired four rounds at Juan Carlos Zambrano Canales, two of which hit him in the stomach and chest area. He died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Pierce said the two men had been arguing before the shooting.

When asked how the men were connected, Pierce said “the link between” them was a woman, all three of whom were guests in the trailer. Pierce said he wouldn’t speak any more about a possible motive.

Madera, 31, was later arrested at a hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas, by authorities there.

Pierce said Wednesday night that Madera was awaiting extradition back to Cobb.

As of Thursday afternoon, Madera hadn’t been booked into Cobb jail, according to the online jail database.
