Police have taken 55 cats from a Gwinnett County home they say was covered in feces and urine. Now, they’re looking for rescue groups who can help find the cats a new home.
The Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Unit were called to a home on Heron Court in Norcross because of a “strong odor.” The woman living at the home told police she “frequently rescues cats,” police said.
There were cats in every room, as well as food, water and litter boxes. The cats had urinated and defecated on the floor throughout the home, and there was urine and feces on the walls, police said.
The woman surrendered all 55 cats to police. She was issued six citations. Police and animal shelter staff have not described the situation as “hoarding” or “animal hoarding,” a spokesperson said.
The cats are now at the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter. Police are encouraging licensed rescue groups to call the shelter at 770-339-3200 if they are interested in the cats.
