UPDATE: The Roswell pizzeria has been re-inspected and passed with flying colors, earning a score of 96/A. It had two new violations related to soiled and poor gaskets near coolers. The inspector also observed fruit fly activity in the basement kitchen, but treatment is in progress.

ORIGINAL STORY (published April 4): Something has changed in the past year at Carlisle's Pizza Tavern in Roswell.

A year ago, the pizza joint and bar scored a 90 on its food inspection report. The year before, a 96.

But when inspectors from the Georgia Department of Public Health came through at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 31, they found a lot of problems. Carlisle's was given a score of 49 and a grade of U for unsatisfactory.

Inspectors observed a worker handling ready-to-eat feta cheese with no gloves, a worker drinking from an open container in a food prep area, no paper towels at the hand washing station, a buildup of slime and mold in the interior of the ice machine, food stored on the floor of the walk-in cooler and no dump sink in the bar area.

The inspector also saw a toxic item — such as a chemical spray bottle or paint containers — stored in the food prep area.

Multiple prepared food items and containers, the report says, were not labeled with a date of preparation or date of disposal. The inspector also noted heavy fruit fly activity in the basement kitchen.

In a statement, Carlisle’s told the AJC: “We have addressed all infractions and are awaiting a follow up inspection this week.”

Locations with failing scores are usually re-evaluated within 10 days.
