A Lawrenceville location of a popular chain that offers chicken wings and more failed its recent health inspection, with improperly thawing foods and unlabeled sauces and oils among the violations.

The American Deli at 65 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road got a 68/U on the Wednesday afternoon inspection.

According to the inspector's report, there was "no person in charge at the start of the inspection" and the restaurant did not have documentation that employees were taught health code-related responsibilities.

Frozen fish was improperly thawing at room temperature, the inspector said, and "multiple sauces/oils in squeeze bottles ... were not labeled with [their] common name." Time-cooked rice and eggs were also not being monitored properly, officials said.

In addition, slices of American and provolone cheeses werre not date-marked.

A person who answered the phone at the restaurant Thursday hung up when asked for comment. A follow-up inspection will be completed within 10 days of Wednesday's failing evaluation.
