An 8-year-old boy was killed when an ATV overturned and crushed him Sunday night in Gordon County.

Sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and emergency workers were dispatched to a poultry farm, where the incident occurred on Old Boone Ford Road about 7:30 p.m. near Sonoraville, according to the Gordon County Sheriff's Office.

The boy was taken to Gordon Hospital, where he later died.

“Our hearts go out to the family of this little boy in the wake of this tragedy,” Sheriff Mitch Ralston said in a statement on the county sheriff’s website. “We can never put the sense of loss into words, but the family and friends he leaves behind are in our thoughts and prayers.”

Gordon County is about 65 miles north of downtown Atlanta.
