A mother charged with murder in the death of her 8-month-old daughter in Brookhaven has been denied bond.

Shavone Whitehead will remain in the DeKalb County jail as the case against her proceeds after a judge denied her request Wednesday, the district attorney's office said.

The woman's daughter, Kamonie, died two weeks after she stopped breathing at the Microtel Inn on Aug. 1. A detective testified in September that Whitehead had said she and her boyfriend, Edward Wilson, sometimes disciplined the child because she was "crying all the time." Sometimes they used a belt, police said.

Wilson has also been denied bond.

A clear picture of what happened hasn't been made public. But police said a security camera at the hotel showed the boyfriend suddenly come out of the room in "panic mode" looking for the child's mother shortly before calling 911.
