Atlanta police seek suspect in case of driver shot by a stray bullet

Investigators said it started when three men were seen arguing. Two went into a store while the third stayed outside and drew a gun.

A suspect allegedly involved in the recent shooting of a driver near the Mall at West End has been added to the Atlanta Police Department's "most wanted" list.

Brandon Welch, 27, is sought in connection with the crime — in which a man fired rounds into the air on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard on June 7. Police declined to say how Welch was involved, but have charged him with aggravated assault.

Tobias Thomas was hit in the back of the head by a stray bullet; he then lost control of his truck and crashed into a utility pole and a man on a bicycle.

Thomas, a father and music executive, and the cyclist, Oumar Dia, were both recovering from serious injuries in June, Channel 2 Action News reported. Police did not provide an update on their condition Monday.

In surveillance video released by the police, the suspect approaches two men. After the two men appear to go in a store, the suspect fires into the air as he walks away from the store.
