A company that provides crime-scene cleanup, hoarding cleanup, mold remediation and meth-lab decontamination services has opened a Georgia franchise location in Alpharetta.
Spaulding Decon franchisee Ken Goodnight will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the business at Smokejack BBQ, located at 29 South Main Street, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
The services — which will be available to residents and businesses in Alpharetta and neighboring cities, such as Atlanta, Powder Springs and Marietta — help ease the burden of those recovering from tragedies, Goodnight said in a release.
“When a person’s home becomes a crime scene, or when someone struggles with hoarding, expert cleanup and decontamination is an essential part of the recovery process to ensure safe living conditions for everyone, especially for those most susceptible to harmful contaminates,” he said.
Goodnight, an expert in meth-lab decontamination, intends to raise awareness about the the long-term harm of methamphetamine production in homes.
The release, citing the Georgia Department of Public Health, says there are "currently no state laws in place that require property owners to decontaminate or disclose the contamination to future tenants."
Spaulding Decon President and CEO Laura Spaulding-Koppel, a former police officer, said Goodnight feels a sense of responsibility to the public.
