Atlanta City Councilwoman Felicia Moore threw her hat in the ring to become the council’s next president on Thursday.
Moore, who has represented northwest Atlanta since 1997, said she has been a “clear, but ferocious” advocate for families, seniors and community safety.
“As our next Council president I will bring my 20 years of criminal justice reform, senior advocacy and youth mentoring to the president’s office,” she said. “I will make sure that my spotless record on transparency and ethical governance benefits everyone in Atlanta, and together we will help make Atlanta the city Martin Luther King, John Lewis and every recent college graduate who moves here always knew it could be.”
Moore joins fellow City Councilman Alex Wan in the race to replace current Council President Ceasar Mitchell, who is running for Mayor. Wan declared his candidacy earlier in January.
Moore said if elected she would fight for an Atlanta City Council that invites citizens to the table, helps to bring well-paying jobs with good benefits to the city and would be an ally for teachers, parents and neighborhood associations.
“I hope over the next eleven months I will earn your support, prayers and vote for Atlanta Council President in November,” she said.
