The state Department of Education today released the results of the 2017 Georgia Milestones tests, given to public school students in elementary school through high school each spring.

The AJC data folks are doing some deep dives into the data, including identifying the highest scoring elementary schools in metro Atlanta in third-grade language arts.

The scores are based on the percentage of test takers who scored at the two highest levels, proficient or distinguished, in third-grade language arts. Here are the top 10 schools in that category:

Lake Windward Elementary School, Fulton County, 86.8

Marietta Center for Advanced Academics, Marietta City, 85.3

Shakerag Elementary School, Fulton, 83.3

East Side Elementary School, Cobb County, 83.2

Simpson Elementary School, Gwinnett County, 83.2

Tritt Elementary School, Cobb, 82.2

Mount Bethel Elementary, School, Cobb, 81

Austin Elementary School, DeKalb County, 81

Dunwoody Elementary School, DeKalb, 80.4

State Bridge Crossing Elementary School, Fulton, 79.3
