Cobb County students fared slightly better on the ACT exams last school year than they did the prior school year, school officials said.
Students who took the exams during the 2015-16 school year had higher average composite scores than their classmates during the 2014-15 in English, math, reading and science. The results were released Wednesday.
Statewide, students did better on the ACT, which is used by most colleges to help determine admissions qualifications. Cobb school officials said the average scores exceeded the state and national averages. Ten of Cobb's 16 high schools posted average ACT composite scores higher than the state and national average.
Students who took more rigorous courses, such as physics, had higher scores than those taking general courses, officials said.
Walton High School had the highest average score in the district at 26.6 points.
“Walton has a rigorous curriculum in all classes. There are high goals set for each student in each class. We have an excellent faculty that helps students meet those goals, and we always appreciate the parents’ support,” said Walton High School Principal, Judith McNeill.
