A DeKalb County teacher faces criminal charges over allegations of inappropriate contact with a student.

William Plummer, 41, who worked at Elizabeth Andrews High School, was arrested Thursday and charged with three counts of sexual assault. According to the charges, the incidents took place on Aug. 30, Sept. 3 and Sept. 10.

District officials said Plummer was removed from the school Sept. 12 during an investigation by the DeKalb County School District Public Safety Department.

“Such alleged conduct will not be tolerated and, based on our investigation, we are prepared to prosecute this matter to the fullest extent of the law,” the district said in a statement.

Plummer has been a DeKalb County School District teacher since November 2010, officials said, spending the entire time at Elizabeth Andrews.

Recent data showed the number of sexual misconduct incidents in schools was on the rise.

Also this year in DeKalb County, Ronald Wright, a volunteer coach at Ronald E. McNair High School, was arrested in August after a student said he touched her vagina while rubbing muscle cream on her inner thighs.
