Atlanta may be in full football frenzy, but it will be business as usual Monday for the Atlanta Board of Education.

The nine members of the school board, including three newcomers, will be sworn in at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the school district headquarters, about a mile from Mercedes-Benz Stadium where Georgia and Alabama will play for the national title at 8 p.m. The board also will select its new chairman to replace departing board member Courtney English.

DeKalb County School District moved its meeting an hour earlier Monday because of the game. The City of Atlanta will close at 2:30 p.m., followed by Fulton County and state government shutting up shop at 3 p.m.

But there will be no delay of game for the Atlanta school board. It will hold a series of meetings, including a 3 p.m. session to review presentations to the board and a 6 p.m. community meeting after which the board is scheduled to vote on matters ranging from contracts to leases.
