Georgia ranks No. 5 for the most Apple employees in the U.S.

Apple recently unveiled how many workers it employs in every state, and it looks like Georgia’s got a pretty hefty stake in the brand behind one of the most popular gadgets known to man.

The "Empire State of the South" ranks fifth in the country for the highest number of Apple employees, with 1, 516 Georgia workers employed by the juggernaut. California, unsurprisingly, has the most number of employees with, 36,786, Texas ranks second with 8,407, New York (4,291) and Florida (3,868), respectively, rank third and fourth, according to the Apple job site launched Wednesday.

Top 10 states with the highest number of Apple employees:

1. California - 36,786

2. Texas - 8,407

3. New York - 4,291

4. Florida - 3,868

5. Georgia - 1,516

6. Illinois - 1,422

7. New Jersey - 1,391

8. Ohio - 1,294

9. Pennsylvania - 1,275

10. Massachusetts - 1,265

The new state-by-state breakdown shows that Apple employs people in every state and more than half of the company’s workforce is outside of Silicon Valley. Though the top five states revealed a robust Apple workforce, states like North Dakota, with just four remote Apple staffers, is an example of the company’s paltry presence in certain parts of the country.

In addition to providing the breakdown of its nearly 80,000 employees last week, Apple also announced a $1 billion fund aimed at creating more American manufacturing jobs. Apple officials planned to announce more details on the fund later this month.
