Kari Parlier has been an educator in the public school system for the past 23 years. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Illinois College, Master’s degree from Western Illinois University, and her Specialist degree from Piedmont College Within her many years as an educator, she has taught Pre-K, first grade, and second grade in Illinois, and upon moving to Georgia she taught second grade from 2001-2011.

Kari began teaching 3rd grade in 2011, and continues to do so at Duncan Creek Elementary. Her teaching style has been inspired by her 7th grade teacher, Cheryl Hasselbacher, and administrators Diane VanHootegem, Dr. Phil Epperson and Christine Emsley who believed in her, supported, accepted and guided her. Most importantly, her husband Michael is her daily support and inspiration, as she hopes to be the level of educator he is at some point in her career.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is proud to announce a new community recognition program – the AJC Celebrating Teachers Awards. We believe the very best of the best are worth honoring and giving them the recognition they deserve. This will be a moment of significant pride for the honoree, their family and school.
