A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Cherokee, Bartow and northern counties until 1 a.m., Channel 2 Action News meteorologists say.
Current temps are 62 degrees in Atlanta, 54 in Blairsville and 59 in Griffin.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the metro area after 10 p.m., Channel 2 meteorologists said.
“We’ve got a cold front coming through tonight, and it will bring a line of showers and thunderstorms, even the risk for some strong and isolated severe storms followed by a big drop in temperatures,” meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
Gusty winds and lightning are possible.
The rain and stormy weather should taper off by 2 a.m. Thursday, Channel 2 reported.
