17-year-old accused of fake report of shooting at Cobb school

A former Sprayberry High School student is accused of texting 911 to report a shooting inside the school, Cobb County police said.

Only there was no shooting.

Cobb County police, sheriff’s deputies and school police all responded Monday afternoon to the school, located on Sandy Plains Road near Marietta, Sgt. Dana Pierce said in an emailed statement.

“As officers from the various jurisdictions arrived and entered the school, it became apparent that no shooting was (or had) taken place,” Pierce said.

Jamila Dennery told Channel 2 Action News she received a cryptic text from her son and went straight to the school.

“(He said) that they were on code yellow, that he was fine and the lights were off in the classroom,” Dennery said.

Within an hour of the false 911 texts being sent, a 17-year-old Marietta girl was arrested.

Ladaisha Gibbons was charged with false report of a crime, disruption of a public school and unlawful conduct during a 911 call, police said. Gibbons was being processed into the Cobb County jail Monday evening and her bond amount had not yet been set, online booking records showed.

In April, Gibbons was arrested for a separate incident when she allegedly hit a family member with her hand and an umbrella, a previous warrant states.
