Surveillance video captured a brazen purse snatching in Atlanta, in which a woman was dragged outside the busy Howell Mill shopping center.
The victim told police that a woman approached her from the parking lot and asked her about restaurants in the area about 2:50 p.m. July 17, Atlanta police Officer Donald Hannah said. She “then suddenly snatched the victim’s black Michael Kors purse from her immediate presence and ran off towards the parking lot,” Hannah said.
The victim chased the woman and grabbed at her purse as she jumped into the front passenger seat of a white vehicle, Hannah said.
The vehicle drove off, leaving the victim caught between the vehicle and pavement in the parking lot, Hannah said.
She was dragged across the parking lot and sustained abrasions and lacerations to her legs, side and feet, police said. She also has “a substantial wound to her left elbow,” Hannah said.
She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment, Hannah said.
Inside the purse were her Metro PCS ZTE phone, keys to an Enterprise Nissan Altima rental car, her social security card, debit/credit cards and driver’s license. She told police her card was used at several Lenox Square stores.
The accused woman is described as 20 to 24 years old, about 5-foot-5 and between 155 and 165 pounds, police said. She also has a large tattoo on her chest, Hannah said.
