Authorities are searching for a man they say used a semiautomatic handgun to rob a Subway restaurant in Cherokee County on New Year’s Day.

About 9:30 a.m., the man, believed to be in his late 20s to late 30s, entered through the back door of the restaurant in the 12000 block of Highway 92 in Woodstock, police spokeswoman Brittany Page said in a news release. Flashing the gun, he demanded money from the clerks, who complied.

Then the man left the scene on foot, Page said. He went west along the highway.

The man is described as 6 foot to 6-foot-4 and thin with blue eyes, Page said. He wore a black Under Armour jacket, dark pants, dark shoes with white soles, a black beanie, and a tan adjustable ball cap with an unknown insignia on the front.

The gun is believed to be an all-metal 9mm to .45, with a stainless steel/nickel slide and black grips or frame, Page said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Woodstock police at 770-592-6030 or the tip line at 770-592-6021. Callers can remain anonymous.
