The woman shot and killed Friday morning at a Gwinnett County apartment complex has been identified by police as Lynett Karim, 29, of Peachtree Corners.

According to Gwinnett police Cpl. Deon Washington, officers responded to the Highland Lakes Apartments on Ashley Lakes Drive in Peachtree Corners just after 8 a.m. following reports that a man and a woman were fighting in the parking lot.

“During the 911 call, gunshots were fired,” Washington said.

Karim was found dead in a sport utility vehicle that had crashed into a tree near the front entrance to the complex.

Washington said witnesses gave police a description of the alleged shooter, and police took that man into custody for questioning. Rickey Williams, 36, of Peachtree Corners was booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center Friday afternoon, charged with felony murder and aggravated assault, Washington said.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the parties involved knew each other,” Washington said.
