The former treasurer of the Cherokee High School drama booster club is accused of stealing money from fundraisers, officials said.

Michelle Renee Adas was arrested Monday after a tip led to an immediate investigation, Canton police Officer Pacer Cordry said.

Officials noticed several irregularities when they looked at the financial records for the club and found more than $5,000 missing, Cordry said.

"The detectives took it seriously, interviewed her right away and got details from her from the interview that led to the arrest," Cordry told Channel 2 Action News.

Officials with the school district told Channel 2 they value all students, teachers and parents who help raise money and will take swift action if that money is stolen.

Adas was released Tuesday morning on a $17,272.16 bond, jail officials said.
