A driver’s license left in a taxi cab may help police piece together the puzzle of what happened to a driver, who was found dead nearly two weeks ago in northwest Atlanta.

Atlanta police want to speak with the driver’s license holder, Stephan Fitzgerald, who police believe was a passenger the day Mamadou Matesso, a taxi cab driver for Five Star Taxi in College Park, was found dead.

About 3 a.m. Feb. 5, police responded to a 911 call about a cab backed into a light pole in the 600 block of Spencer Street. The driver’s side door was open, police said.

Police found Matesso unconscious on the ground outside his cab, according to a police report.

Matesso was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Though the cab driver’s wallet and cellphone were missing, police said they found Fitzgerald’s license inside the cab.

Anyone with any information about the death of Matesso is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
