A man wanted in connection with a shooting death in Middle Georgia was arrested in Clayton County, authorities said.

Corey Deshaun Humes, 33, was charged in Houston County with tampering with evidence and possession of a gun by a felon in connection with the death of Curtis Thomas, the Macon Telegraph reported.

Thomas, 23, was fatally shot Sept. 14 in front of a home, according to the newspaper.

Humes was in a vehicle in the parking lot of a QuikTrip on Upper Riverdale Road on Thursday when deputies took him into custody, Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill said in a news release. Humes’ girlfriend, Chassity Thomas, also was arrested, Hill said. Charges against her are not known.

They were turned over to Houston County deputies.

Humes was released from prison in February, the Telegraph reported. He was convicted of theft by taking, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute for offenses that occurred in Houston County.
