A woman has been detained in connection with a shooting that police believe started with an argument and left a man dead Monday morning at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex.

"The female currently that we have we believe is the alleged shooter," Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton said.

The preliminary investigation at Deerfield Gardens indicated a verbal altercation "escalated to the shooting," Hampton said.

"We're not sure how the gun played into it," he said. "That's what we need to figure out, exactly what happened."

Officers responded to a call about a person shot just before 8:30 a.m. at the apartment complex in the 2900 block of Campbellton Road.

When they arrived, they found Marlon Green, 27, of Atlanta, dead on the scene.

Police said they will take the woman who was detained to the homicide office to continue the investigation. Hampton said the woman is cooperating.

"As of right now we don't believe that between the two individuals that there's any history of domestic violence," he said.
