Cellphone video captured a weekend attack on a LaGrange playground that left a police officer with a bloody nose and cuts.

Officer Brady Pike was called about a man creating a disturbance at the playground area of the Lucy Morgan Homes about 3 p.m. Saturday, LaGrange Public Safety Chief Lou Dekmar told the LaGrange Daily News. The unidentified man accused of creating the disturbance had a child who belonged to another set of parents at the park, Dekmar said.

When the man put the child down at the officer’s request, he immediately lunged at Pike and punched him in the face, Dekmar said.

The cellphone video, recorded by bystanders, shows children watching the scuffle.

The officer, who was taken to a local hospital, is expected to be OK. LaGrange is about 75 miles southwest of Atlanta.
