Midtown carjacking victim, 17, dies

Atlanta police announced Monday that a teenager shot in a carjacking has died.

The victim “did succumb to his injuries,” after being shot near Grady High School on Friday night, Officer Ralph Woolfolk said.

The victim was identified as Sean Turner, 17, by the Fulton County Medical Examiner. He died Saturday.

According to an incident report, the carjacking happened when Turner and a friend were attempting to buy marijuana.

They were at a gas station on Boulevard when they “ran into the brother of one of their old friends” and asked if he could help them with the purchase, according to police. The man, whose nickname is “Salsa,” said yes and followed in one car, the report said. Two other men got into the backseat of the victims’ BMW and directed them to the intersection of Charles Allen Drive and 9th Street in Midtown, where they then put handguns to the back of the victims’ heads and ordered them out, the incident report said.

Turner was shot after he ran up to the BMW when it got stuck in traffic, police said.

As of Monday, police had not announced any arrests, saying the victims provided only vague descriptions of the gunmen.
