A 24-year-old man was shot and killed Friday night in Clayton County during a gathering with family and friends, police said.

About 11:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1600 block of Bogota Way in Jonesboro, police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

Officers found Demarcus Myers, who had been shot at least once, unresponsive underneath a carport, Marbury said. Police performed CPR on Myers until emergency crews arrived to treat the victim.

Myers was was taken to a local hospital, where he died, Marbury said.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting occurred as Myers was participating in an outdoor gathering with family and friends,” Marbury said in a news release.

Detectives interviewed several witnesses and searched the location. No further details were available.
