A man was sentenced Thursday in Henry County to two life sentences for torturing and raping a woman, officials said.

Michael Hamilton, 56, was convicted of rape and aggravated sodomy charges Aug. 18, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

He was also sentenced to 10 years for false imprisonment, five years for terroristic threats and one year for simple battery — the max for each charge, Henry County District Attorney spokeswoman Megan Matteucci said.

The woman managed to escape after nine hours of abuse.

Matteucci said the victim asked the judge for the maximum punishment, describing the sexual assault as “being in a torture chamber with a stranger.” All of the sentences will run concurrently.

In September 2014, Hamilton put a gun to the woman’s head and threatened to kill her while sexually assaulting her, Matteucci said. He also attacked her with a sword and a knife.
