A 47-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday night, Gainesville police said.

Officers responded about 9:30 p.m. to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Carlton Street, Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.

Dennis Ronald Gayton, who has no current address, had a gunshot wound, Holbrook said. Gayton was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone who saw anything in the area of the shooting is asked to contact police at 770-534-5254.
