A man has died after someone he knew chased him through an Athens apartment complex and shot him, police said.

Clinton Patterson died Sunday of injuries sustained during what police believe to be a robbery, Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said Tuesday.

The shooting happened Dec. 21 at North Grove Apartments in the 100 block of Old Hull Road.

The gunman got away, but he was described by police as about 5-foot-8 and in his mid-20s.

“We do believe the motive to be robbery, and it is not a stranger-to-stranger crime,” Rodriguez said.

Police hope to release video surveillance soon.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective P. Johnson at 706-613-3888 ext. 522 or Sgt. D. Norris at ext. 556.
