Nearly 19 hours after a man fell off a pontoon boat into Lake Allatoona, authorities recovered his body.
Game wardens were called to the Webster Ferry Landing area of the lake about 5 p.m. Sunday after a 36-year-old man disappeared underwater, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said in a news release.
The search continued until that night, but it was called off due to a severe thunderstorm warning combined with a lack of light, the release said.
The search resumed at 7 a.m. Monday, and game wardens were able to locate the victim about 3½ hours later by using a sector sonar scan, the release said. The Bartow County Dive Team recovered the body just before 11 a.m.
Authorities are withholding the victim’s name pending his family’s notification. No other information has been released.
This is the fourth body that officials have recovered from Georgia lakes within the past eight days.
