A Norcross man accused of torturing a mother and her son at an apartment was arrested by Gwinnett County police Thursday.

Rickey Taylor, 28, is charged with murder, armed robbery and false imprisonment in the death of Nicola Sramek and her son James Sramek, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Deon Washington said.

The two were found dead in the apartment Sunday with blunt force trauma and stab wounds, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Police do not know how long they were there.

Police went to the apartment on Chelsea Park Lane in Norcross about 10 p.m. Sunday to check after a family member was unable to reach them, authorities said.

“It is very disturbing to know that there are people in our society who are capable of exacting such levels of violence against others,” Washington said.

Surveillance footage linked Taylor to the scene. Police say he went on a 24-to-48-hour crime spree, committing several armed robberies days before the murder. Detectives believe the robberies are what led to the murder.

Taylor is being held without bond in the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
