A Cherokee County man accused in the shooting death of his wife was denied bond Thursday, the sheriff’s office said.

Darrell L. Eaker, 43, allegedly shot his wife, Audra Eaker, with a semi-automatic handgun while they were in a car on Highway 92 in Woodstock, according to the arrest warrant.

Police called the attack malicious and unprovoked in the warrant, saying Darrell Eaker shot Audra Eaker five times in the face while she was driving about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

After firing all rounds, Eaker allegedly dropped the weapon inside the car and wandered off about 100 yards “without even attempting life-saving actions,” the warrant states.

Audra Eaker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The couple was married, but separated at the time, Woodstock police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan previously said.

Witness Kylie Morgan was walking toward the QuikTrip on Highway 92 when she heard the commotion and saw police respond to the scene.

“I saw four cars stopped and I heard loud popping, maybe about five or six pops and then people screaming to call 911,” Morgan said.

The Ball Ground couple was separated at the time of the shooting, police previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Eaker remains in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on charges of malice murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during an attempt to commit a felony and murder during the commission of a felony.
