Cobb County officials are investigating a 62-year-old woman’s murder inside her Kennesaw home.

Darryl Chandler, 61, was charged with murder, aggravated assault and attempt to commit arson in the death of his wife Brenda Chandler, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

Police arrived to the home on Lake Mist Drive regarding a call about a strong odor coming from the house, Pierce said. Once inside, officers found Brenda Chandler dead in the master bedroom. The wife had been shot, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause of death, Pierce said.

Neighbors initially called the gas company after smelling the strong odor, Channel 2 reported. Police were called after Darryl Chandler refused to let the gas company inside to investigate the smell.

He is in the Cobb County Detention Center without bond.
