A Gwinnett County man told police his roommate shot him shortly after noon Sunday.

Justin Lopes, 35, was lying on his sofa and bleeding from the stomach when police arrived at his Lawrenceville home on Prospect Road, Gwinnett County police spokesman Sgt. J. L. Sligar said.

His girlfriend applied pressure as Lopes waited for an ambulance, Sligar said.

Lopes was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he was in critical but stable condition Monday.

The girlfriend, who was not named by police, told detectives Lopes said he was going to the store shortly before she heard a gunshot.

Christopher Joseph Kemp, 35, was identified as the shooter, but police still aren’t sure why he would have shot at his roommate. He had left the area before police arrived.

Kemp is wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is considered armed and dangerous.
