A Cherokee County man has been charged with rape and child molestation after an alleged incident involving a 14-year-old girl at a northwest Georgia park, police said.

Cameron Jerome White, 30, of Woodstock, and the girl were in a vehicle at Ridge Ferry Park in Rome on Wednesday night, police told Channel 2 Action News. An officer saw White and the girl, who knew each other, in a vehicle with their pants down, spokesman Corey Bowers said.

White and the girl were initially supposed to go to a family member’s house, Bowers said.

“At one point when they were together, she no longer wanted to be in that car and tried to get away,” Bowers said.

White is in the Floyd County jail without bond, according to records. He’s also charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes and false imprisonment.

Ridge Ferry Park is a popular spot in Rome, with a large central playground, picnic areas and river views. The 60-acre park offers access to a trail system that runs through the downtown area, according to the park’s website.
