Police on Thursday identified a suspect in a Cobb County carjacking who prompted a 2½-hour SWAT standoff in a neighborhood in south Fulton County.
About 6 p.m. Wednesday, authorities tracked a Ford F-250 Super Duty truck stolen in the carjacking to Joshua Darnelle Coleman’s home on Jerome Road near College Park.
Coleman, 32, was seen running from the vehicle and into the home, Fulton police Det. Melissa Parker previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He would not answer the door.
“The SWAT team was called out, and the suspect refused to come out of the house,” Parker said. “They were forced to make a tactical entry.”
Flash bangs were used as SWAT team members swarmed into the home about 8:30 p.m. The team found Coleman hiding in the basement and arrested him, according to a police report released Thursday.
Coleman requested a lawyer and Cobb police said they would send a wrecker for the truck to process it for evidence. The truck was reported stolen from an address near Marietta on Wednesday.
Coleman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for examination, but sustained no injuries, Parker said.
Cobb police on Thursday did not immediately provide a requested report on the carjacking.
