A man was shot Saturday in Walton County after he and three other men left their pickup truck and confronted the driver of a car during a football-related traffic jam, authorities said.

Traffic on Highway 138 was moving slowly due to people coming from the Georgia Tech-Georgia game in Athens, Sheriff Joe Chapman told Channel 2 Action News.

Lanes were merging, and the vehicles got into an altercation because they were trying to get into the same lane, Chapman said.

The men got out of the truck and confronted the driver, Chapman said. One of the men swang at the driver multiple times through the car’s window. At this point, the driver got a pistol and shot the man who was trying to hit him.

The man who was shot was taken to a local hospital, Chapman said. His condition is not known.

No identities were released. No charges have been filed.
