As police in west Georgia try to determine who shot and killed a pregnant woman inside her Carrollton home, relatives worry the victim's 2-year-old daughter, may have witnessed the killing.

Carrollton police believe Nakita Lashawn Holland, 36, was killed either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, Channel 2 Action News reported. Holland, whose body was found Monday, was nine months pregnant.

Holland’s sister stopped by the Bennett Circle home to check on her and heard the toddler crying, according to Channel 2. She and the victim’s landlord went inside and found Holland dead in the bedroom. She had been shot multiple times.

“We did locate where some rounds were fired from outside her bedroom into the bedroom,” Carrollton police Capt. Chris Dobbs said.

Relatives of the victim told Channel 2 while Holland’s daughter was found uninjured, she was covered in her mother’s blood.

Neighbor Mark Baker has known Holland for “at least 20 years,” he said. “Her and my sister were good friends.”

Baker called the victim “a good person – never been a bad person at all.”

He said he had no idea who would have killed his neighbor, and “no idea why.

“It was a big surprise to me,” Baker said. “Her being pregnant and all, it’s a real bad thing.”

Holland’s mother, Slynda Johnson, called on those responsible for her daughter’s death to come forward.

“They took my daughter away from me,” Johnson told Channel 2. “Yes they did. But I know whoever it is, there’s going to be justice. You’re not going to be able to hide.”
