A couple was found dead in a boat on Lake Lanier during a wellness check Monday evening, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said.

Andrew Maronge, 39, and Julie Wright, 40, both of Gainesville, were found in a 24-foot Bayliner cabin cruiser by Georgia Department of Natural Resources rangers, Forsyth County spokeswoman Jenny Belafi said in a statement.

The rangers were called to do a check of the the boat after relatives said they could not get in contact with Maronge and Wright.

“After failing to make contact with the boat occupants, DNR rangers boarded the boat and located the couple in the front cabin area deceased,” Belafi said.

The boat was anchored off Three Sisters Island, Belafi said.

Maronge and Wright are believed to have died of carbon monoxide poisoning, but Belafi said there is nothing definitive until an autopsy is complete.

The case is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.
